To ensure your marriage is legally recognised, you will need to complete the required documentation according to your nationality and the regulations of the Italian authorities.

Civil ceremonies are officiated by an Italian Registrar, last approximately 15–20 minutes, and are legally recognised in your home country.

The ceremony is conducted in Italian and professionally translated into English by an official interpreter.

Catholic Ceremony

Catholic wedding ceremonies are legally recognised in Italy and can only take place in a Catholic church. Italy is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and historic churches, offering a truly sacred and unforgettable setting for your special day. The required documentation for a Catholic wedding should be started at least 6–8 months before the wedding date. Please note that Catholic weddings for non-residents are not permitted in Sorrento, but they are possible on the Amalfi Coast.

Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta

Ideal for those who prefer avoiding the paperwork associated with civil or religious ceremonies, the symbolic wedding ceremony is not legally binding. Couples have the freedom to personalize the ceremony based on their values and beliefs. The ceremony’s content varies, allowing for traditional or relaxed and unstructured settings, performed by a pastor, Italian officer, or a family member. Symbolic ceremonies can be conducted in spectacular venues like medieval courtyards, vineyards, or romantic Italian gardens.
